(More customer reviews)I originally bought a two-pack of the THIN sanding fingers and some of the finger paper to work on some shutters I was refinishing. After scraping off the thick 70+ years worth of paint with a torch and putty chisel, I used my Fein tool with these finger attachments to finish off the slats, which were very narrowly spaced. Although the size and thickness of these things is ideal for this purpose, the fact that they use velcro hook & loop sanding sheets is a major downfall. With all that oscillation concentrated on a small surface area, the velcro on the metal finger quickly melted and would not hold the sandpaper firmly any longer. In all fairness, I was pretty hard on these things--removing charred paint remanents and surface scorches as opposed to finish sanding fine woodwork. This system would probably work much better with PSA sandpaper as opposed to hook & loop.
A better solution still is to use the THIN version of the triangular sanding pad--which is what I eventually went with. This is thin enough to get in between the shutter slats, but has a much greater surface area than the fingers and is not as subject to as much melting as those.
By the way, many people diss the Fein sanding attachments due to this pad melting issue. I had the old Porter Cable Profile/Detail sander and THAT pad would melt as well if you put too much pressure on it and worked it too hard against the material. This seems to be an issue for any velcro-based system. The key is reducing the speed and letting the machine oscillation do the work and not pushing too hard on it.
So, get the thin triangle sanding pad instead, or perhaps the carbide finger rasp. Although the rasp is only good for very rough material removal, since it is constructed of bonded carbide particles, there is no velcro material to melt on the attachment.
